Amid scores of stories profiling the brutal and indiscriminate slaughter of hundreds of civilians, the New York Post reported a story of an Israeli mother who evaded Hamas terrorists and escaped with her two children.
The heroic mother is Avital Aldjem. Her neighborhood was overrun in the early hours of the incursion. Terrorists went door to door, executing and kidnapping civilians.
The New York Post reported that Aldjem attempted to evade the men who broke into her home by hiding in a closet with her two children, four-year-old Negev and four-month-old Eshel, but they were soon discovered.
As the sound of gunfire sounded all around them, terrorists dragged Avital and her children into the street and began to force them to walk toward Gaza.
124 News reports that Aldjem recalled: “They took us from house to house, the whole time there were gunshots along the way.”
Aldjem added: “[There were] puddles of blood everywhere.”
Describing the surreal scene, Aldjem said: “They were burning the homes. Cars were on fire. Then they took me and my kids outside and took us to the fence that surrounds the kibbutz. There was a breach in the fence, and they began to walk us toward Gaza.”
Aldjem, sporting two black eyes, spoke of being frightened as the terrorists “constantly” told them, “Quick, quick” and bullets flew and her son Negev was roughly carried on the shoulders of a terrorist, “screaming that he wanted to be let down.”
Perhaps due to the screaming, the soldiers inexplicably put the child down when they entered Gaza territory, left the three and walked on.
Aldjem recalled: “They continued to Gaza and left me and the kids,” she said. “At that moment, I realized we [could run] home.”
Aldjem began walking home alone with her two children.
The mother put Negev, who had a shrapnel injury, on her back, carried Eshel in her arms and began walking back toward her home as the battle unfolded around her.
Aldjem shared what happened when she returned to the Israeli-Gaza border: “When we get to the border, I see another group of terrorists. I took the children and we hid behind a dune. After some time the coast was clear and Aldjem found safety in Israeli territory.
The proud mother told reporters that Negev was courageous: “He was brave. I told him we need to get away from the bad men and go back home to the good people.”
As the world learns more about the attack by Iran-backed Hamas in southern Israel, reports of attacks by Hezbollah on northern Israel are swirling.
Expecting a retaliatory response, Lebanon’s Minister of Education announced the closures of schools.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to address the nation today. The prime minister previously warned Israelis the war against those who supported and initiated the attack on Israel would be “long and difficult.”
One Israeli IDF spokesperson said that just as the attack on Israel was unprecedented, so too will be the retaliatory strike on Hamas
